Toastmaster Speech 2: “Meaning of Success”
I delivered my Project 2 Speech in East Delhi Toastmaster Club during July, 2015. I got the idea for my second Toastmasters speech while having gup-shup with few friends. We were talking about the meaning of success with different aspect. I decided that this might be an interesting topic for my speech of Project 2. My speech was as follows. Time allotted was 5 -7 minutes:
What is the meaning of success? Mr….. do you want success….. Mr. Do you want success… Yes… I also want success…. It means like air, water, food, we also need success in our life. It would not be wrong, if I say success is very important part of our life and we have to understand the concept of success.
What is success? As per businessdictionery.com “success” can be defined as Achievement of an action within a specified period of time or within a specified parameter. To most people, success means achieving a goal. To some people, success means being the best at what they do. (e.g. Sachin Tendulkar did his best in his betting).
A person having a wealth of Rs. 10 lakh thinks success means if He will have Rs. 1 crores at his hand. Another person having a wealth of Rs. 1 Crore thinks success means if He would have 100 crores at his hand. Some wants to be successful by all means, others are satisfied by simply trying and giving their best, whether they succeed or not. The term “successful” can have a number of meanings for different people. For some, a successful person is a person who earns a lot of money in their job, for others success might be best found in a person working in an honorary/loving post.
When I grew up to 12th standard – people used to say, Son…… listen…..if you do well, your life will be amazing after getting admission in good college and your life would be successful. I studied well and cleared with a good percentage and got admission in Kirorimal College, Delhi University. But I quickly realized, the amazing life people said, is not anywhere near! Then, I took up CS Course during graduation. People again said, son…. if you pass all the groups in 1st attempt, your life will get success. After doing CS, I thought I got success and I was feeling very happy. But, when I went to market for job…. I hasn’t got job till two month, I was not happy….then I realized.. still I am not success…. And doing CS and graduation not the success at all for me. Thereafter I got a job…. The people are not quiet even now, now they say, “If you do well here, you will have a successful career, positions and even a good girlfriend. Then again I realized that bad politician and bad people are more beautiful girlfriend than other. Than I thought I have to just tie myself with this company and I will be successful But soon I realized that I cannot do that and try to move on…..
During my one month R&D I asked 20-30 people how they would defined success” …. And ….. I’m often amazed at how many people define success as making (or having) a lot of money and having a beautiful husband or wife. The way a lot of people think, success should be defined as follows:
But what I believe is that if you have money but not the work… which you love….. you wouldn’t be happy at all…….or if you have money but fully miserable life, than how could you be happy. Hence I was not satisfied with this definition so I move forward.
After reading lot of stories on successful people I realized that To my mind, however, a much more sensible definition of success is:
Why I choose this definition as better than other there are two reasons why I choose this definition for success. First, there’s no point to being rich if you’re not enjoying yourself. Second, you’re more likely to get rich if you’re happy doing whatever you’re doing. Hence, if you want to be success, you must have to be happy within your heart in your life.
In the context of happy I define success as knowing your purpose in life, knowing why you are here. I read in an article that that there are two great days in a person’s life: the day that they were born and the day that they discovered why.
If you will read the autobiography of successful people …. Modi, Mahatma Gandhi, Sachin Tendulkar, Amitabh Bachchan, Chetan Bhagat’… you will find that they have discovered the answer of why. And you will believe that it’s easier to get rich if you start from a place of being happy–with what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. And you will reach at the purpose of your life… which leads to success.
In the context of purpose for your successful life. You have to understand the “word passion” To discover our purpose of life; you have to understand your passion. What are you passionate about? What do you really care about? What would you live for? What would you die for? Passion is a key to your purpose; it’s a sign of your purpose. If you’re passionate about self development, then maybe there’s a helpful book that you are destined to write. If you’re passionate about cooking, then maybe you’re supposed to be a cook, if you’re passionate about singing, then maybe you were born to be sing. I am not saying that Passion is 100 percent foolproof, but it will get you into what I call the location, the area, the neighborhood of what your purpose really is. It’s not a secret that passionate people have a lot of energy. That’s why when you see successful people, they love what they’re doing and they’re doing what they love. They never run out of energy and they can’t wait to get going. If you find a person who has passion, you find a person who has energy. Conversely, if you find a person who lacks passion, normally they will lack energy.
Now what we are doing to get success………You see, every day we are either repairing or preparing. Every day we are either trying to fix yesterday— relationships, issues, priorities, lost opportunities—or we are living your life in such a way that we are preparing for tomorrow Mr. ……………. Do you agree……if I say what we are doing in our daily routing we are just overstressing our yesterday….. We overestimate our tomorrow………………… and we underestimate our today.
Conclusion: Only work connected to your passion can make you happy….. and that leads to your success… This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don’t like something, change it. If you don’t like your job, quit. If you don’t have enough time, stop watching TV. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing things you love most. Its competition between you and YOU, and with no one else!!
Mana ki andhera ghana hai lakin diya jalana kahaa mana hai. Over to you Toastmaster.
